The Journey Behind ShoulderGlide

Years ago I'd dislocated my shoulder in a motorcycle accident while riding the Pan American highway. It seemed to heal; I went back to normal activity. Then it popped loose again 30 feet up a cliff at the crux of a climb. And I couldn't get it to heal right again.

Everything I read and watched kept coming back to rebuilding strength in the rotator cuff. But I was a new dad and didn't have time for 20 minutes a day of exercises on top of work and childcare and, on good days, other exercise. And bands didn't feel quite right -- was I even getting the right muscle? Why didn't it feel right?

So, as these things go, instead of spending 20 minutes a day for two months on shoulder exercise, I've spent 20 hours a week for two years. Ah, well. Score one for irony.

But the result is a tool that anyone can use to strengthen their shoulders. My 70-year-old parents can work their shoulders with this, too. Seeing someone quickly move well is amazing. Watching them be able to pick up a grandchild is even better.

It's been a long journey, and one that will, I hope, last many more decades. And I'm grateful for every relieved smile I see on the way.

Shoulder strength shouldn't be so hard. Or complicated. Or time-consuming.

The early days of building a business are incredibly hard. But for me they were also wonderfully fun, because two of my best friends, Rory Dyck and Rosie Moore, were there. For all the early encouragement, feedback, brainstorming, and wildly innappropriate jokes, I will always be grateful. Thank you both.
